Refugee Reporter gives refugees a chance to get involved in local journalism, and in doing so provides them with a voice in the German media.

Who is writing is abiding. Does that apply for refugees who would like to publish their own stories? In the German media much can be read about refugees – little written by them personally. They are the object, not the subject, of the media coverage. Refugee Reporter wants to change this, and therefore works to bring refugees in contact with local media. Refugee reporters then report from their everyday situation in the local section of local newspapers. In order to do this local journalists and refugees form a mentoring partnership. This has advantages for both parties: Local media sources improve their media coverage and discover new topics. Refugee reporters gain a public voice.

The vision of the seminar program of the Schreib- und Bleibwerkstatt (Write and abide workshop) is the qualification of refugee reporters through personal journalistic productions, in which they will become a mouth-piece for their fellow refugees.
