Sharehaus Refugio Berlin is home to refugees and Berlin residents who live side by side. A coaching programme offers German language classes for everybody and provides comprehensive support in finding a job or a meaningful training opportunity. The residents commit to individual programmes that are designed to activate their skills and talents both in the house and in the neighbourhood. Refugio develops co-working, workshops, social enterprises and networks together with partner initiatives. This generates jobs in various areas, for instance in the café. Residents receive counselling on self-employment and jobs. Refugio collaborates with the initiative querstadtein that adds a meeting platform complementing Sharehaus Refugio Berlin. Biographic city tours offer visitors the opportunity to learn about the life of a particular refugee. Together, Refugio Sharehaus Berlin and querstadtein form a joint structure that offers new prospects for refugees and local residents through work and exchange. The team is made up of committed volunteers, artists and refugees who set up Refugio in summer 2015 as a project run by Berliner Stadtmission (Berlin City Mission). The idea of offering city tours with homeless tour guides by the initiative querstadtein successfully completed the Social Impact Start Programme and is now set to be extended to other groups, for instance refugees.
